Step By Step Acne Scar Treatment

Acne scar treatment is not one long race; it is many short races one after another

I don’t know about you but as far as I am concerned there is nothing more frustrating than acne scars. And finding an acne scar treatment that would actually work seemed almost like squaring the circle. And how could I find a solution when there were so many different possible solutions? The more treatments I tried, the more lost I would get. So, decided to get to the bottom of it myself.

While looking for acne scar treatment I realized that many people consider plastic surgery as their first option and treatment as an alternative. It should be the other way around, right? We should first try to find a treatment and if it’s not working we should go for surgery. At least that seems logical to me.

Anyhow, after some inquiries, I noticed two different approaches to acne scar treatment: short term and long term. It is my belief that what seems too good to be true it generally turns out like that. And in this particular case it meant that I was tired of overnight treatments together with their incredible results. Don’t imagine that it was easy to dismiss them! I was about to give in to temptation, trust me!

The most efficient treatments require longer time to show results and here’s the reason why. Such treatments involve two stages of treatment instead of one. Removing the scarred tissue is the first part the reparation of the resulted tissue is the second stage of the treatment. Both of them can be taken care of in two ways:  we can either go to the dermatologist or we can try to fix it ourselves.

What I can tell you is that acne scars that look severe should be treated by a doctor otherwise you may permanently damage the skin and then no doctor could ever fix it. But most of the common acne scars are not severe and can be treated properly with the right products, perseverance and patience. I know that it sounds time consuming but you need to understand that the longer you wait, the longer it will take to heal your scars.

What do your scars look like?

There are several types of acne scars according to medical records: Ice Pick scars, Boxcar scars, Rolling scars and Hypertrophic scars. You can check their pictures on the Internet to help you identify the type of acne scars that you have. I had a combination of hypertrophic scars and rolling scars. And it seems that I was not an only case and that most of us have at least two forms of scarring as a result of acne.

Do you still have acne or not?

My biggest issue when treating acne scars was related to the fact that I still had acne. So, everywhere I asked about acne scar treatment I would get an answer like “you need to wait until you’re free of acne, dear”. That really pissed be off! I am supposed to wait until my whole face looks like that?!

 Removing Scar Tissue

The first and most important step in acne scar treatment is removing the scar tissue. What I can tell you is that this type of tissue is formed layer by layer in weeks, sometimes even months. And you can’t expect it to go away after one day treatment. You can use either home remedies or creams at this point:

  • Home remedies based on vitamin C such as lemon juice, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, baking soda turned out to be effective remedies. They can have positive effects only if you use them every single day.
  • Microderm abrasion creams are designed to exfoliate your skin layer by layer. Some are very powerful and will leave your acne scar look like an open wound. That shouldn’t scare you off but it should tell you “it is time to go to the next step”. They will not cost a fortune but they won’t be cheap either.

TIP: Any skin abrasion, natural or not, can make your skin photosensitive and blemish can occur if you don’t use sunscreen. Try to stay away from the sun when undertaking acne scar treatment.

Acne Scar Treatment

The treatment of acne scars is about healing the wounds that you have just opened. Skin has a strong self-repairing function that has truly amazed me. Did you notice how people manage to have their skin back even after horrible burns? Acne scars are tiny compared to such cases. I saw that if I gave them enough time, nature will take its course and you’ll have your old skin back.

  • Surgeons have developed healing creams that are used by patients for scars caused by surgery. These creams act almost immediately and replace the missing collagen in your skin.  They are not cheap, I must confess, but they will be worth every dime.
  • Organic healing creams are a great choice but they take longer to work and real organic products are difficult to find.
  • Creams that contain mineral ingredients prevent swallowing and soothe the skin. This allows the skin to repair itself without any rush. Nourishing creams can be used in addition to keep the skin healthy.
  • Do not use acne treatment on fresh open scars. They can damage your skin deeper and this time, for good. Not even the best acne treatment is recommended at this stage.
  • Antiseptic creams are also a solution as they just clean and protect the wound letting the skin repair itself without any human meddling.
  • Burn creams are also useful. I used such a cream that helped me more than all the others put together. It was for open burn wounds and it totally did the job for me.

Water Is A Must

Drink as much water as you can during this period. I know from self experience that water is essential to skin care in general and to healing in particular. So, at least 8 glasses of water should go through your body system every day.

Path to acne scar treatment maybe long but is achievable with strict enforcement.
